Welcome to the Urban Detroit Wholesalers’ blog.  For this first post I’ll give you a little background on what our company does, the founders, and our past experience.  I’ll also talk a little about what you should expect from our blog. This is definitely a value added part of your day so look forward to our posts.

Urban Detroit Wholesalers, LLC was founded in 2007 by Jeremy Burgess and Jared Pomranky.  This was by far neither mine or Jeremy’s first business as we had created two leading metro-Detroit investment companies JB Real Estate Solutions and Progressive Results.  I’m sure Jeremy will tell you more about himself and what he has accomplished in real estate but it’s pretty safe to say that Jeremy has built a company and knowledge base that far exceeds any other investors in Detroit.  If you need to know anything about Detroit, Jeremy is the man to answer it.  He has knowledge of Detroit that native Detroiters have failed to gain.  Truly amazing. This is the man that moved, with his wife Jeanna, from Seattle, Washington because his business in Detroit, Michigan was doing so well. How many people do you hear doing that?  Optimism and creativity are definitely Jeremy’s strong points.  While many investors and residents of Michigan are spreading doom and gloom, he is creating his own successes by refusing to get caught up in the “glass is half empty” mentality.  Only “glass is half full” with Jeremy, and me, and asking “how you can make something happen” instead of telling people that it can’t happen.

My real estate investing career started 5 years ago when I read the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.  It was truly the smack in the face that I needed to get out of my employee mentality and into the entrepreneurial mindset.  I dove into reading every real estate and financial book I could get my hands on, going to every online discussion forum like http://www.richdad.com/, http://www.creonline.com/, and many others.  After about 6 months I was able to evaluate and purchase two 2 flat properties in Midland, Michigan conventionally.  While not being my best investments, they took me from an employee to a property owner.  I utilized a private lender, a property manager, and I cash flowed the properties each month so I didn’t do too bad!  Around this time I found my mentor that I still consult with regularly in David Culver http://www.mentormastermind.com/.

This is when my real estate investing career truly took off and in August of 2006 I was able to quit my job, as a Business and I/T Consultant with Accenture for 5 years, to run my real estate investment company full time.  Since then my business has exploded by investing in metro-Detroit and in the City of Detroit.  I’ve truly embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and have not been afraid to expand into different markets or invest when others are afraid.  I was also able to start a metro-Detroit real estate investment club where I met my business partner, Jeremy.
