My wife and I are on a working vacation here in the green state of Washington. We are here for my 10 year high school reunion and to see friends and family we haven’t seen in a while. We did not take the video camera so you will have to read this week.

Things I learned at my 10 year high school reunion.

  • People are a lot nicer than they were in high school.
  • Life was hard on most people.
  • Most people had settled on mediocre jobs and had given up on their dreams.
  • When people are nervous, they drink a lot. I think I was the only sober one.
  • Some people will surprise you.

I really enjoyed going back and seeing all the folks I used to go to school with. Only about half of my graduating class attended. The one thing that really stood out from everything else was that people were comfortable.

“Comfort is a terrible thing.” by Ken Brown

This is something that I say all the time and I remind myself of on a daily basis. Most of my peers were not happy with where they were in life, however many were comfortable where they were at. It was easier to keep doing what they were doing rather than doing what they needed to pursue their dreams. This lead me to a conclusion that may upset some people or at least challenge their current thought process. Your comfortable life is holding you back. Your life is too easy for you and despite your talk and some of your actions, because it is easy, you will not succeed.

I met people at my reunion who had nothing and life was hard and they had accomplished more than the comfortable had. So here it goes, my great revelation…… If you want to succeed in your endeavors, you need to make yourself uncomfortable. The more success you want and the faster you want that success, the more uncomfortable you need to make yourself. Realize also that there is nothing wrong with you. Human nature makes us work much harder the more uncomfortable we are. You will actually fight yourself subconsciously from achieving your success the more comfortable you are. Don’t judge yourself and beat yourself up because you haven’t had the success you want. Harness a new tool, uncomfortable, and use it to your advantage.

So here is my new quote for you and it will now be at the bottom of all my emails. I want you to succeed so….

Make your life uncomfortable,
